Chassis Realignment

Chassis Realignment in Windsor & Watford

A collision can distort a vehicle's chassis and structural frame in ways that are not visible from the outside. Even a moderate impact at the front or rear can push the chassis out of alignment, affecting handling, tyre wear, and the effectiveness of safety systems. Manning & Boyce carries out chassis realignment at both our Windsor and Watford workshops using computerised measuring systems and laser alignment equipment, restoring your vehicle to manufacturer geometry before it leaves our workshop.

Why Chassis Alignment Matters

A vehicle with a misaligned chassis handles differently. Steering may pull to one side, tyres wear unevenly, and fuel consumption increases. The structural integrity of the vehicle is also compromised: a frame already out of specification will not absorb and distribute impact forces as the manufacturer designed it to. After any significant collision, alignment should be checked even if the vehicle appears to drive normally.

Why Chassis Alignment Matters

How We Carry Out Chassis Realignment

Measurement

We mount the vehicle on our alignment rig and take a full set of computerised measurements against the manufacturer's geometry specifications for your make and model.

Assessment

Any deviation from specification is identified and a repair plan is agreed with you (or your insurer) before work begins.

Realignment

Using hydraulic straightening equipment and constant measurement feedback, we gradually return the chassis to the correct geometry.

Verification

A final set of measurements confirms the vehicle is within manufacturer tolerances before it leaves the rig.

Documentation

We provide a record of the before and after measurements for your insurer or for your own records.

Was the Damage Caused by Another Driver?

On a non-fault claim, the cost of chassis realignment is recoverable from the at-fault driver's insurer. Manning & Boyce manages the claim, arranges a courtesy car, carries out the structural work alongside any panel and paintwork repairs, and handles all the paperwork. You pay nothing.

Chassis Realignment FAQs

How do I know if my chassis needs realignment after an accident?
The vehicle may pull to one side, the steering wheel may sit off-centre when driving straight, or tyre wear may become uneven. In some cases, there are no immediately obvious symptoms. After any significant collision, a chassis check is advisable regardless of how the vehicle feels to drive.
Can a misaligned chassis be fully corrected?
In most cases, yes. Where the distortion is within the range that hydraulic equipment can address, and the structural members have not been permanently compromised, we can return the chassis to manufacturer specification. Where the damage is severe enough that replacement of structural components is required, we will advise you before proceeding.
Will my insurer cover the cost of chassis realignment?
Yes, where the damage is the result of an insured accident. We work with all major UK insurers and handle direct billing. If the accident was not your fault, we recover the cost from the at-fault party's insurer, so you pay nothing.
Does chassis realignment affect my vehicle's MOT?
A vehicle with a significantly misaligned chassis or poor wheel alignment may fail its MOT on steering, suspension, or tyre wear grounds. Correcting the alignment before your next MOT removes this risk and ensures the vehicle is road-safe.
Can you carry out chassis realignment alongside bodywork repairs?
Yes. Structural realignment is typically the first stage of a full accident repair at Manning & Boyce, followed by panel and paintwork work in the same workshop. Combining the repairs means a single visit and a coordinated repair plan.
